Every student will receive a planner. At the very beginning of the year he/she will be responsible to fill out and I will initial to make sure everything was listed. After the first few weeks I will expect students to do this on their own. I will only continue to sign agenda for students who are having problems completing homework or because of parent request.
At the end of the day students will have 10-15 minutes to work on homework. Students who use this time wisely usually get a good chunk of homework done here at school.
What to Expect
Novel Group: This is the one homework assignment that will be constant, everyday Monday-Thursday. The only exception to this may be if you have completed a novel. This might seem like a lot at the beginning of the year, but there is a direct correlation with students who take their time and do this properly and STAR Reading Scores and growth.
A checklist is attached to the Schoology discussion board and in the back of student notebooks.
Math: Most days Monday-Thursday there will be math practice for students to complete at home. You will most likely be carrying your math book to and from school a lot more than in previous years.
Spelling: Every Monday students will receive a new spell list along with a packet or SPINGO (Spelling Bingo). EVERY Friday this packet or Spingo is due and we take a test-NO EXCEPTIONS! Snow days and absences do not affect the due date.
Vocabulary: Students will have a quiz every other week on 10 vocabulary words.
Reading: There will be homework most days for our whole group novels. Students will either be expected to read and/or answer questions while at home.
